Discovered in a Berlin cabaret, she was a pioneer for her on-screen androgyny and indelible personas. Once famously having said, “I dress for the image,” the Dietrich Cape is designed for those who are not dressing for the public, for fashion, or for men - but instead, dressing to create an image. Like Dietrich, the cape is designed to have sex but embody no gender.

Dietrich became a U.S. citizen in 1939, after having denounced the rising Nazi regime in the 1930s. As a USO, she was awarded the Medal of Freedom, one of the highest honors an American civilian can receive.
